Show The Bench FARMER THE FIRST TO GO The policy of squeezing out the inefficient farmer does not set well with me. The first to feel the pinch are the GIs. Nearly Near-ly all the fellows who were in the young farmer group with me are now working for wages trying to supplement their farm income to save the investment they have in a farm or they have already been pusehed out without really having a chance to be efficient. From the time J was a little boy two types of farmers stand out in my mind. The ones who wished their neighbors would have a crop failure so their own hay would bring a premium prem-ium price. The other type who would always lend a little help and a little advice to his less fortunate neighbor to help him enjoy the same success he himself him-self was enjoying. This is a local condition, but it seems to me the fundamental difference has been multiplied many times and has become national. The policy of pushing your neighbor down as you climb or that of reaching out a helping hand to your fellow farmer. There is not too much food and never will be as long as there are starving people in the world. We could all be successful success-ful farmers at full production. |
