Show Know Your Schools . . . . A "Thanh You" To Our Legislators .... By Supt, Rowan C. Stutz A Word of Appreciation to Rep. Brotherson and Sen. Stringham By an override of the Governor's Gover-nor's veto, both houses of the 1955 Legislature passed H. B. 54 which provided $2,130,000 for the continuation con-tinuation of the emergency school building program. This allocation will finance the approved remodeling remodel-ing and new construction projects at Neola, Roosevelt Elementary, Tabiona and Duchesne High Schools in addition to the previously pre-viously approved remodeling and additions to the Roosevelt Junior High School. My main ' purpose in reporting I this in this column is to pay special spe-cial tribute to our local representatives represen-tatives for their untiring efforts to get H. B. 54 passed. In a pre-session public meeting in the Roosevelt City Hall, Rep. Brotherson and Sen. Stringham pledged their support to this particular par-ticular legislation which means so much to Duchesne County. I can now verify that they kept that pledge. Because H. B. 54 affected so relatively few of the counties (8 in all), it faced difficulties from the start. In addition the Legislative Legisla-tive Council brought in a lengthy report recommending the discontinuance discon-tinuance of the emergency school building program and the Governor Gover-nor in a telecast speech vowed to veto the bill if it was passed by the Legislature. In the face of this opposition our representatives were able to win enough support to not only pass the bill, but to override the Governor's veto. Rep. Brotherson has been particularly par-ticularly active throughout the entire en-tire session. His influence on the powerful Appropriations commit tee was no small factor. It was Senator Stringham's influence on the floor of the Senate that was responsible for much of the support sup-port H. B. 54 received by this legislative body. It has been reported to me that without the hard work of both of these men the appropriation for the emergency school building program would not have had a chance of even being considered. Our gratitude and respect go to our local legislators for approximately ap-proximately $700,000.00 worth of remodeling and new construction for the Duchesne County schools. |
