Show Police School Set For Roosevelt March Sixteenth Modern up-to-date traffic accident acci-dent investigation techniques and reporting will be carried to local police and sheriff's departments in a series of special police schools commencing March 2nd. The schools will be under the joint sponsorship of the Utah Safety Council, and the Utah Peace Officers' Of-ficers' Association, and are one of the outgrowths of a series of traffic traf-fic court conferences held last fall. The schools are being directed by the Utah Board for Vocational Education, which is also lending various technical services. The latest developements in accident ac-cident investigation and reporting, based upon the 1955 revised manual man-ual of the Northwestern University Traffic Institute will be the basic instructional source. The instructors' instruc-tors' staff will be headed by Captain Cap-tain Rulon Bennion and Sgt Jack Gridley of the Utah Highway Patrol, Pat-rol, and will include police experts from Salt Lake City, Provo, Ogden, and Cedar City and the former director of the Financial Responsibility Division of the Utah Department of Public Safety, Leon Lines, now Safety Director, Utah Motor Club. Transportation is also being provided by the Utah Motor Club, as a Public service. Those assigned to instruct the school are Sgt. L. A. Bleyl, Salt Lake City police dept., Sgt. Otto Henderson, Ogden police dept., and Leon Lines, Utah Motor Club, safety director. An institute for the instructional staff was held at the State Capitol on February 16, at which the basic fundamentals of accident investigation in-vestigation were discussed, and the general outline of the instruction plan adopted. Spokesman for the sponsoring agencies emphasized that the schools wil be one-day affairs and will concentrate on the basic fundamentals, fun-damentals, and are inte-ided to acquaint all officers with these latest developments in accident investigation. in-vestigation. It was also pointed out that the information developed from accident investigations and proper reporting is of paramount importance in the entire accident prevention program at all levels of government. Follow-up classes are being considered con-sidered for further instruction on other phases, depending upon the success of the initial series. |
