Show Cattle Grub Check Discovered In ET-57 Chemical Recent research indicates that cattle grubs may be doomed, according ac-cording to Dr. D. W. Thomas, Extension Veterinarian at Utah State Agricultural College. He says this feat, long a goal of agricultural science, has been accomplished by feeding an organic or-ganic phosphate chemical to grub-infested grub-infested animals. The chemical, designated for experimental purposes pur-poses as ET-57, moves through the bodies of cattle to destroy grubs where they occur in the animal's flesh. "These . first highly promising experimental results are considered consider-ed a milestone 'in progress toward development of a systemic grub-control grub-control chemical that can be used by livestockmen", Dr. Thomas says. "But remember, the chemical is not ready for use at the present time." Research presently is being conducted con-ducted to determine, among other things, toxic effects on animals and chemical residues in milk or flesh. The research is being done by ! U. S. Department of Agriculture scientists entomologists at Cor--vallis, Oregon and Kerville, Texas. |
