Show I President Signs iOiil Dividing jUte Indian Assets President Eisenhower recently recent-ly signed a bill providing for distribution of the assets of the-Ute the-Ute Indian tribe between full-blood full-blood and mixblood members. The bill also ends federal supervision su-pervision over the properties of mixed-blood members of the Ute tribe and sets up a development devel-opment program for full-blood members. The Indians affected by the legislation live on the Uintah and Ouray reservations in Utah and Colorado. The tribe has ! assets estimated at $27,700,000 There are 439 mixed-blood members mem-bers and 1,326 full-blood Utes concerned. The only properties not affected af-fected by the bill and which therefore will not be divided are the tribe's oil, gas and mineral min-eral rights and its claims against the federal government which have not as yet been adjudicated. |
