Show The Bench FARMER NEW TELEPHONES The day our telephone was cut in was a big day. When the feller that installs the telephones tele-phones came, we all stood around like we had never seen one before. When he finally had it ready to test, he couldn't get the neighbor's kids off the line long enough to even get a call through to the operator. The minute he had it fixed we were on the phone and hal it going steady until the installer called us in an irritated voice from1 the neighbor's house and asked us if we could please stay off the line while he was testing and installing their phone. Today our telephone was dead. It had already become such a necessity that it seemed impossible to get along without it. I We, as farmers, should feel thankful for the leadership of Floyd Ross for helping us to obtain this convenience of the telephones on our farms, and for the cooperation of all those who helped Floyd make this posisble. Let's hope and pray that this legislated farmer squeeze we are now in will not take the telephones, the electricity and the many conveniences that came with the power away from us, and reduce us back to the depression level of the 30's. |
