Show Pack In Custody .... Prisoner Held For Robbery Escapes From County Jail LaVern Hamaker, about SO, of Roosevelt, was back in custody cus-tody after escaping from the Duchesne County jail sometime Saturday night where he was being held for trial on the charge of robbery. He was picked pick-ed up in Tooele by the sheriff Sunday night. According to Sheriff Arzy Mitchell, Hamaker is to face trial on July 7 at 2 p.m. on a. I charge of robbery, brought by -Ivan Hadden, of Duchesne, who alleges Hamaker assaulted and robbed him, and left him tied: in Hadden's car west of Dil-chesne Dil-chesne last fall, Hamaker was extradited from Montana to answer this charge, and was released on a $5,000 bail bond. Early last week the defendant's brother, Marvin Hamaker, of Bennett, delivered him to the county authorities, requesting withdrawal of bail. This was granted and Hamaker was confined to the county jail The jail building at Duchesne is in the process of being moved from its usual location and after Hamaker had been locked in his cell he made his escape. Whan questioned by Sheriff Mitchell, who returned the defendant to the Utah County jail at Provo, where he will be confined until his trial, he said he was solely responsible for nis escape and had no other help. Two other prisoners in the jail said they heard no unusual noises and were surprised when told their prison mate had left them. Attorney for Hamaker is George E. Stewart, of Roosevelt, and Phillip V. Christensen, district dis-trict attorney, assisted by James R. Hall, Duchesne county attorney, attor-ney, will prosecute the case. |
