Show New City Party To Be Formed At Open Mass Meeting Tonight That a new party will be formed and another ticket entered en-tered in the forthcoming city election, became an almost certain cer-tain thing early this week when it was announced that a mass meeting of all interested citizens citi-zens of Roosevelt was being called at the American Legion Barracks tonight, Thursday, Oct. 15, at 7:30 p.m. If another ticket is nominated nominat-ed and filed with the city recorder re-corder it will assure a contest for the office of mayor and two 4-year councilmen, which offices of-fices will become vacant Dec. 31, 1953. Approximately two weeks ago the Progressive Party Par-ty met and nominated George Stewart for mayor, and Floyd R. Peterson and Clem Labrum for councilmen. Those actively promoting the formation of a new ticket were anxious that a large, group of citizens attend the caucus to have a voice in selecting candidates candi-dates for office to govern the affairs of the city during the next four years. What the name of the party and who will be its nominees are matters that will have to await the convention tonight. Time of the convention is 7:30 and the place is the Legion Barracks, Bar-racks, and every qualified voter in Roosevelt is invited to attend at-tend and express himself. Deadline for filing candidates for office is next Monday, Oct. 19. All tickets must be filed with the city recorder on or before that date. |
