Show New Oil Find fifear Duchesne May Prove Basin's Best Field Mew Well Location One-E4aif Mile From Duchesne City; Drilling Inside Limits Predicted Residents of the City of Duchesne Monday were excitedly ex-citedly viewing the possibility of living on top of an oil dome as the Carter Oil Co.', on the basis of favorable drill stem tests at the Einer Nelson, No. 1 well, confirmed the presence of a sizeable oil reservoir in the county pool. According to a telegram received by this paper from W. A. Crutcher, division chief scout for Carter Oil, discovery dis-covery of the oil reservoir in the county pool has extended ex-tended productive limits of the pool one mile to the "south of the now producing County well. The newest discovery discov-ery well, Einer Nelson, No. 1, is located about V2 mile north of the city limits of Duchesne. Accordinp to the telepram in which George E. Wagoner, di-visonal di-visonal manager for Carter's Western Division, was quoted, on drill stem tests of the Green River formation from 4520 feet to 4600 feet operators recovered 3676 feet of free oil, 150 feet of mud cut oil, and no water. Gas which reached the surface in nine minutes and blew steady throughout the test burned with a four foot flame. Gravity of the oil was 27 degrees API and pour point was estimated to be 55 degrees. Operators are currently current-ly pooling test tool on subsequent subse-quent test taken of the interval 4600 feet to 4624 feet. The later drill stem test ol)en two hours had oil to the surface in seventy-five minutes. The discovery well of the County Pool, the Carter No. One Duchesne County Unit, is located locat-ed one mile north of the above well. Completed in May of this year it is currently producing approximately 209 barrels of oil per day from the interval 5123 to 5257 meet in the Green River formation. The well initially flowed at the rate of 4,228 barrels bar-rels an hour. After production difficulties with water, the well was completed as a 239 barrel well, but it drew special attention atten-tion because its oil had such a low pour point (25-degrees) as compared with the high-wax Uintah Basin crudes. Success at the Eyner Nielson also points to early drilling for oil within the confines of Duchesne Du-chesne itself. Most of the land in the town has been brought under a common pool leasing agreement arranged by James M. Dunbar, Jr. and Coieman H. Mulcahy, independent oil operators oper-ators of Salt Lake City, They have been seeking a drilling agreement and Carter's second success undoubtedly will give them an early taker at their own terms. Pour point of the Eyner Nielson Niel-son was considerably higher than that of the Duchesne County Coun-ty No. 1, 60 degrees F. as compared com-pared with 25 degrees. However this pour point is still considerably consider-ably below the 95-degree pour point oils common in the Basin. Gravity of the oil was slightly higher, 27 degrees as compared with 23.9 degrees in the well to the north. Oil from the discovery well is being trucked to the Utah Oil Refining Company in Salt Lake City. |
