Show 4-II Stock Judging Team Rated High In Denver The Duche'sne County 4-H Livestock Live-stock Judging Team was the top team in the sheep and wool judging judg-ing in, the .Junior Division at the National Western Livestock show at Denver last week. ' The team members are Lloyd Lewis, Jerry Merkley, Gail Larsen and Kent Robison. Fourteen Junior teams from nine Western states were represented in this division. The Duchesne team, winners of the 1955 Utah State Fair, placed first in the judging of Hampshire ! ewes, second in the judging of Southdown fat lambs, and third in the judging of Columbia ewes. As' a team, the boys' tied for second place in the Angus cattle division. Their score was 195' out of a possible 200. They placed fourth in the Hereford bull judging, judg-ing, fourth jn the. fat hogs, sixth in the"Tudging of breeding hogs. Three-Way Tie For First Gail Larsen of Arcadia, was in a three-way tie for first place' in the competition for livestock judging reasons; and Gail and Kent tied for first place in the (Continued on Back Page) 4-H JUDGING TEAM . . . (Continued from Page 1) fat steer judging. Robert S. Murdock, county agricultural ag-ricultural agent, accompanied' the boys on the 8-day trip. Enroute to the livestock show, the group stopped at the Colorado Agricultural Agricul-tural College at Ft. Collins and participated in livestock judging there on Jan. 12. While at Denver, the boys and Mr. Murdock were guests of the National Western Livestock Show at the famous rodeo and horse-show, horse-show, which features the best rodeo ro-deo performers. They were guests at the State Capitol and had their picture taken with the governor of Colorado. The Wilson Packing Co. was another host to the boys, who visited its plant and were guests in the' plant cafeteria for a luncheon. The Duchesne judging team attended a banquet as a part of the National Western 4-H CLub Round-up, a gathering of outstanding out-standing 4-H Club members from eight states. Safeway Stores of Roosevelt contributed $25 as expense money to the beys for this trip. Mr. Murdock said the officials of the show reported this was the largest one ever held at Denver, and it is the biggest Hereford show in the United States. |
