Show Sports In The Open Space LAUNCHES SURVEY Just how important are hunting and fishing to the economics of Utah? First steps toward learning the answer to this question will be taken this week when the Bureau of Economic and Business Research Re-search at the University of Utah launches a statewide survey, according ac-cording to Osmond L.. Harline, director. Moi3 than 1000 Utah sportsmen will be interviewed with results to be coded and tabulated for the Utah Fish and Game Commission. "All our interviewers are trained train-ed personnel who will attempt to collect information on the expenditures expend-itures of the state's sportsmen for hunting and fishing equipment," said Gary Cowan, research associate as-sociate in the U bureau who heads up the project. "They'll, also determine de-termine the areas most often used by sportsmen and the types of hunting and fishing that are most popluar with them. This should enable the commission to manage and utilize the state's wildlife resources even better." License sales in 1955 amounted to more than $1,000,000, but officials of-ficials expect that suppiles and equipment sales will boost that total, many times. |
