Show A Mcon Lake Proposition .... "Centralization" Issue Again SF lares According to a special bulletin published by the Moon Lake Electric Elec-tric Association, known as the "Moon Lake News", and edited by Ron E. Harrison, manager, the issue of "Centralization" is not yet solved. At a recent meeting of the board of directors a vote was taken on calling another special meeting, this time to include Roosevelt on the call along with Vernal as a choice for the office site. According to the bulletin the next meeting is being called for Vernal High School on Wednesday, Wednes-day, July 11, at 10 -a.m. Lost First Round On May 26 at another special meeting called by the board to consider this issue, Vernal was the only city or site mentioned as the location for the headquarters. head-quarters. 1224 members of the cooperative.- which supplies electrical electric-al energy to rural areas In the Uintah Basin and Rangely, Colo., voted on the issue, with 650 voting down the proposition to move the office to Vernal. The 76 majority 'No' votes, meant that the office would remain, for the present, at Altamont. R.E.A. officials who made an exhausted survey and management study of the entire system, were definite in their recommendations that the office be moved from Altamont, with Vernal being the first choice. At the special Altamont Alta-mont meeting, each of the seven board members expressed himself him-self as being favorable to centralizing central-izing the operations of Moon Lake Electric, with only one opnely indicating in-dicating his choice, and' he favored favor-ed Altamont as the place. Was Not Considered At this meeting in Altamont, Roosevelt as a possible site for the office was not considered. Vernal being the only choice, or leaving the headquarters whereat has operated op-erated since the cooperative was established in 1938. Whether there was an attempt to get Roosevelt on the May' 26 call has not been officially revealed, but rumors were that the idea of giving the members of Moon Lake a multiple mul-tiple choice was turned down by the board, and that REA officials insisted VernaL be the only name on the call. People Are Unhappy . Residents of the, Altamont area, and those who worked so hard to defeat the "Move To Vernal", proposition are most unhappy over the board's decision to again consider Vernal as a site, after the issue had been voted down once. They also feel they are being taken unfair advantage of by holding the July 11 meeting at Vernal, instead of Altamont where (Continued on Back Page) I CENTRALIZATION ISSUE . . (Continued from Page 1) regular and special membership meetings have been heLd over the years. A committee is working on the issue, but no report was received re-ceived as to what procedure will be followed to defeat the proposition. prop-osition. Meanwhile, the call has been made, published, and 2500 copies of -the official call have been printed print-ed and will eventually be circulated circulat-ed among the membership, and unless un-less some way is found to restrain the board from holding the meeting meet-ing as scheduled, it is quite possible pos-sible the issue might be settled once and for all. |
