Show UlflTAH BASK PIONEER OBSERVED 92nd IIOTBAY Oil NOVEMBER 7; Bonn m mmm mamn tent Mrs. Henry Harris, long-time resident of the Uintah Basin, observed her 92nd birthday Wednesday, Nov. 7. Mrs. Harris, a very remarkable character for her age, happened , to be in the Amber on Bakery .the previous Tuesday buying pies, cakes, etc. when she was interviewed. -J- Very cheerful in nature and especially spry and active for her age, Mrs. Harris, using very J.o'od English, related a little of her life's history, which has been most interesting. Mrs. Harris resides about 3 miles north of Fort Duchesne with her son, Henry, Jr. She was born in Wypming, near Green River City, in an Indian tent. Her mother was a Ute Indian In-dian and her father a white man. who was a pony express rider. When just young, she moved to Utah, and was an ' early pioneer of the Uintah Ba sin. Mrs. Harris stated that she resided in Vernal before there was a building in the town. Her husband, who was a great peace maker between the Indians In-dians and white men, died six years a So at the age of 86. Mrs. Harris does housework, I including washing and ironing, and does all types of fancy work. When asked what she contributed contribut-ed her long and. healthy life to, she remarked, "I believe it's how a person lives and takes care of himself. I think they should practice the Golden Rule. She has 150 grandchildren and great-grandchildren. . . , |
