Show Mail Service Via Wolf Creek Pass Being Considered Residents of the Upper Country Coun-try in Duchesne County, and parts of Wasatch and Summit counties are working hard to secure additional mail service from Salt Lake to Roosevelt. According to Fred Bearden, owner - operator of the Wolf Creek Stage Line, if the United States Postal Department would grant the request, this area would have an evening mail delivery in addition to the morn-ling morn-ling one now serving the Basin. A survey of the Wolf Creek Pass route reveals it to be about 32 miles shorter than Highway 40, and if the request of the boards of commissioners of the three counties is heeded, the road will be placed under the Forest Service Bureau of Roads, and would be brought up to road specifications. If the mail franchise were granted, 11 towns in three counties coun-ties would be directly served by the afternoon delivery, and at least 5 or 6 more towns would be affected. The proposed schedule sched-ule would have mail leavin. Salt Lake at 1 p. m., and arriving arriv-ing at Roosevelt at 5:30 p. m. Return mail would leave Roosevelt Roos-evelt at 5:30 a. m. and arrive in Salt Lake City at about 10:30 a. m. . The Wolf Creek Stage Line has been operating daily since 1945, and for the past five years a group has been trying to ae-cure ae-cure consideration for the extra mail service to the Basin. No attempt is bein5 made by proponents pro-ponents of the project to take anything away from the existing exist-ing service, but rather to add something that would benefit the Basin. It is estimated an additional revenue of $35,000 would be realized if the mail service were approved. |
