Show Vote To Organize ..... Group Otis Chamber Of Commerce Unit Approximately fifty business and professional .representatives from the various establishments in Roosevelt were on hand last Thursday night to hear a report from a special committee appointed ap-pointed several weeks ago to study the needs of a Chamber of Commerce for this city, and to listen to a delegation of 12 members from the Price unit who came to assist in the organization. or-ganization. The meeting was called to order or-der by J. V. McLea, who was elected temporary chairman at the initial meeting held in July, who in turn called on Cliff Memmott, committee chairman for the report of the committee. He announced that the 6-man committee had studied very carefully the many aspects, and 'pros and cons of a Chamber of Commerce and that it was their recommendation that the city proceed immediately to perfect per-fect an organization. The Price delegation's presence pres-ence was the result of the committee, com-mittee, and Mr. Memmott introduced intro-duced the visitors, among which was George Patterick, president, who addressed the meeting on the objectives of a Chamber of Commerce and why every city, small and large, should have one. He outlined how they proceeded pro-ceeded with their unit two years ago, and answered numerous questions. Mr. McLea called on several Roosevelt citizens for ,an expression ex-pression as to their desires. On a standing vote, those present were unanimous in their opinion that Roosevelt needed a Charrir ber of Commerce and encouraged encour-aged the formation of a unit as quickly as possible. The previously pre-viously appointed committee ' consisting of E. J. Nixon, L. L. I Pack, Albert Harris, Howard IHarmston, Mr. McLea, Mr. Memmott, Mem-mott, and Paul Murphy, secretary, secre-tary, were retained to select five additional committees to prepare different phases of an organization. organiza-tion. As soon as these committees are selected, (a meeting of the committee will be held sometime some-time next week), another mass-meeting mass-meeting will be called and the Roosevelt Chamber of Commerce Com-merce will be born. Following are the committees that will be selected: Committee on Charter, Objective Committee, Commit-tee, Committee of Officers, Membership Mem-bership and Scope Committee, and Administrative Cost and Budget Committee. |
