Show New Scout Troop ( Is Guest . Of Kiwanis Club (Crowded out last week) The newly organized Kiwanis ' Boy Scout Troop, their leaders, and members of the troop com-' com-' mittee were guests of the Roos- evelt Kiwanis club August 15, ' and were responsible for the 1 program presented for the entertainment enter-tainment and benefit of the membership. Paul Murphy, district dis-trict scout commissioner, was the main sneaker. Don Nielson, 1 j troop committee chairman, was I in charge of the program, and Scoutmaster Dale Ashby intro duced xne uoop. At last week's meeting, David Watkins was appointed by President Presi-dent J. D. Walker as chairman of the special entertainment committee for National Kid's Day that will be held on September Sep-tember 22, and Howard Harm-ston Harm-ston and his youth service committee com-mittee will again be in charge of publicity and advertising. The two will work together. The club voted to purchase a $125 pure bred Jersey heifer which will be presented to the 4-H Future Farmer member in the Roosevelt area selected by Lynn White. Others who spoke on Seminary Sem-inary work were Russel Todd, member of the stake presidency; Bishop E. J. Nixon of the Roosevelt Roos-evelt Second ward; and Melvin Peterson, seminary instructor. Lee R. Broderick ,who recently recent-ly returned from a mission to Finland, reported on his mission. President H o 1 1 i s Hullinger conducted the session. The afternoon session heard talks by President Hullinger, Howard M. Ivory, second counselor coun-selor ,who also conducted the meeting; Arvin Clark, representing represent-ing the church welfare general committee; and President McConkie. Mc-Conkie. The stake singing mothers moth-ers of the Relief Society furnished furn-ished music for the afternoon session. A welfare meeting was held at noon and was addressed by Mr. Clark. The closing session "of the conference was held at the chapel at 8 o'clock in the evening, under the direction of the stake M.LA. presidencies, with Keith Todd conducting. A meeting for priesthood leaders Saturday evening started the conference and was addressed by Pres. McConkie. Speakers in the evening program pro-gram were Pres. Hullinger, Dr. Vere H. Johnson, Dorothy Dean Nixon, Donna Todd and Tom Rowley. A musical program was as follows: vocal duet, Ludeen Anderson, An-derson, Myton, and Eldon Win-terton, Win-terton, Roosevelt; male quartet, quar-tet, Dwain Buchanan, Floyd Peterson, Pet-erson, D. Piatt Woodland and Ron Benson. Music for the general con-j con-j ference sessions was under the I direction of Mrs. Rulon Ander-: Ander-: ton. the Agricultural committee to start their youth calf project. Robert Montgomery, assistant manager of the Commercial Bank of Utah and a former secretary-treasurer of the Payson Kiwanis club last night was accepted ac-cepted as a member of the Roosevelt Roos-evelt club. |
