Show Faculty Is Announced . . . . . UnionHighOpeningSetForSept. 10 Faculty (lamed For Union High The 18-teacher staff which will direct affairs of Union High School this year have been 'secured and are being announced by Principal Loman F. Hutch-ings, Hutch-ings, who last year presided over the Alterra high school. Following is the complete list of teachers and the subjects they will teach: Glen Allred, physical 1 education and basketball coach; !j. Eldred Allred, science; Leora 'Bird, commerce; Nyle Buxton, ' industrial arts; E. A. Call, farm ' mechanics; Clyde Johnson, mu-' mu-' sic; Merlin Killpack, biology; Myrtle Lambert, home economics; econom-ics; James Lewis, mathematics; B. K. Pearce, English; Blanche Murphy, library; Virgie Murphy, English and speech; R. L. Nielsen, Niel-sen, social science; Evan Phillips, social science; Suzanne Fiske, art and English; Eldon Wright, psychology and football coach; Kenneth Z i r k e r, agriculture; Dorothy McMullin, girls' physical phys-ical education and dancing. A. L. Scholes has been appointed ap-pointed building engineer, with Squire Mangum as assistant. Tihe hot lunch center has named Gladys Labrum, manager, man-ager, with Jessie .Pickup, Millie Hatch and LaVern Fenn as assistants. In a little over two' weeks the new $600,000 Union High School will become a reality, for on Sept. 10, students from Duchesne and Uintah counties and from the Indian reservation will meet as a student body and instruction instruc-tion will beg'in. However, this .will not be the initial trip to the beautiful new school for the students who will begin reg- (istering on Monday, Sept. 3. Approximately 50 Indian students stu-dents are expected to register and attend the first day. According to Loman F. Hut-chings, Hut-chings, principal, he will meet for the first time on Saturday, iSept. 1. with members of the faculty, and at 4 p. m. on the following Monday, 12th grade students will meet at the library li-brary to sign up "for the classes they will take during the 1951-52 1951-52 school year. The following day, at the same time, 11th graders will register, with 10th grade students coming the next day, Wednesday, and Freshmen slated to be registered on Thursday. Thurs-day. Only Uintah county 9th grade students will attend the Union High, while those from Duchesne county will attend the old Roosevelt High which becomes be-comes a junior high school. The several meetings of the principal and faculty slated for the week preceeding opening of the school should prepare the school calendars, policies and programs so that class work will move smoothly on Monday, Sept. 10. The problem of student government gov-ernment is one that will begin from scratch. Since this is the first year of Union High, class presidents of last year in the various schools will be called to serve as a temporary student council and will serve along with faculty members and Principal Prin-cipal Hutchings. From this group will come the procedure to follow fol-low in selecting officers for the student body, and such other needs as school colors, constitution, constitu-tion, emblem and name. Activity registration fees at (Continued on back page) Union High . . , (Continued from page 1) the school will be $4.50, an amount that will entitle the student to all league athletic contests, dances, lyceum programs, pro-grams, school paper, and other activities, except the annual school play, and this will be at a reduced rate. Lockers have been ordered, but to date have not arrived. Students desiring this service will be required to pay a 75c fee, 50c of which will be refunded re-funded at the end of school, or when the keys are returned. A $2 laboratory fee will be charged all students so that all other departmental fees will be eliminated. Students will buy their own books and supplies, and any club fees, uniforms or sweaters required by clubs. Union High School will use football equipment from both Alterra and Roosevelt schools for this year. Tew basketball uniforms will be purchased after af-ter ,the school colors and ,em-blem ,em-blem have been selected. Union will not offer a towel service this year for the physical education educa-tion departments. |
