Show Speech & Hearing Clinic Set For County Hov. 6-7 For the past three years a diagnostic speech and hearing clinic has been held in Duchesne Du-chesne County and is one of the fine services offered by the Utah State Health Department and the Speech Departments of the University of Utah, Brig-ham Brig-ham Young University and other oth-er agencies in the state for the purpose of aiding children with speech and hearing difficulties. This fine service is again available. avail-able. On Friday, Nov. 6. at 7:30 p.m., a meeting for all parents and teachers will be held at the Roosevelt Elementary School, under the direction of Dean C. Christensen, Supt. of Duchesne County schools, and the Duchesne Du-chesne County board of education. educa-tion. Dr. Boyd V. Sheets, director di-rector of the Speech Clinic at the University of Utah, and Mrs. Vera Gee, speech and hearing consultant for the Utah State Health Department, will be in attendance witk others to discuss dis-cuss with parents and teachers the speech and hearing problems prob-lems of children and the importance im-portance of early diagnosis and remedial measures. In the past years persons attending at-tending these meetings have been most enthusiastic over the fine programs presented and all parents and teachers are urged to be in attendance at the meeting meet-ing on Nov. 6. It might be pointed point-ed out that this meeting is not only for parents whose children have speech and hearing difficulties, diffi-culties, but will be beneficial for all parents who are interested inter-ested in how normal speech develops and how they can help their children acquire good speech habits. On Saturday, Nov. 7, at the Roosevelt Elementary School, a speech and hearing clinic will be held. Any child who has a speech or hearing problem can be referred to Mrs. Evelyn Johnson, Duchesne County public pub-lic health nurse, who' is in charge of arranging the schedule sched-ule for the Saturday Clinic. In addition to the Speech and Hearing Consultants at the clinic, a psychologist will also be available. It is being recognized recog-nized more and more that many children are having difficulty in school because of emotional problems, and it is felt that this additional service will prove beneficial in helping solve some of these problems. |
