Show Seasonal Advice Given To Utah Poultrymen Timely seasonal advice was given today to Utah's poultry raisers by Dr. W. H. Hendricks, noted poultry authority and former state vetinarian. Dr. Hendricks Hen-dricks urged growers to pay particular attention to body weights of pullets at this time of year. Dr. Hendricks, of Draper Poultrymen, Inc., pointed out that cold weather is due anytime any-time and that with the advent of winter, pullets are susceptible suscep-tible to neck moult if their weight in down. With neck moult comes a decrease in egg production, the veterinarian said. He observed that Utah poultrymen poul-trymen now find themselves at a particular favorable time in relation to egg and feed price ratio. He noted that, with feed prices down as much as 50 to 60 cents a bag from last year, egg prices are firm and up a few cents in some cases. This, it will be remembered, is nearly near-ly opposite the situation of a year ago. Dr. Hendricks urged avoidance of overcrowding the best feeding program available in order to keep up pullet weight and thus obtain full ben. efit of the egg-feed ratio now in existence. Dr. Hendricks also pointed out the necessity of proper ventilation ven-tilation and watering areas and avoidance of overcrowding the coops. These factors, he said, contribute to the over-all picture pic-ture of profits or no profits during dur-ing the fall pullet season. |
