Show Hunting In Basin Shows Drop Over Past Years Hunting was off only two-tenths two-tenths bird per hunter in the Duchesne - Jensen and Jensen special area, according- to complete com-plete data kept by the Utah Fish and Game Department, accord- 1 ing to a department spokesman. With Cliff Greenhalgh in charge, the state worked a thorough check pattern to com- 1 pare data gathered with that obtained in the two preceding j years. The final total showed hunting in the split season' to be off by that narrow margin. . There were other things, however, how-ever, to consider, according to Greenhalgh. The second week of the hunt was treated the same as a new season, which meant thinner shooting- on the second Saturday. There were less hunters afield in the pattern area and they shot" less birds. Hunting figures started at 2645 for 1948, zoomed to 4243 for last year and then settled back to 3972 for this season. - The takes took the same curve a 463 kill in 1948, 6835 in 1949 and 5644 in 1950. A shortage in patronage this year was believed to be caused not by any shortage of birds! but because of icey road conditions condi-tions leading to the Basin, many cars turning around and heading head-ing back to the valleys when road conditions forced the use of chains in Daniels Canyon. Hunters were needed to move the birds again this year for the second phase. The statistics kept show that it took the same time for birds Each bird taken took 5.4 hours with 1.5 days per hunter afield With the exception of the slight fall in bird take all other factors remain fairly constant with factors of last season |
