Show Basin newspapers Rate In Front Page Contest At T Seven Utah weekly newspapers were selected as having "outstanding" "out-standing" front pages in the annual an-nual Harrison R. Merrill Front Page Contest sponsored by the Brigham Young University Journalism Jour-nalism Department, it was an nounced recently at the annual convention of the Utah State Press Association. The Vernal Express won first place and was awarded a bronze plaque. . . Other winners are Brigham City Box Elder News and Journal, second; sec-ond; Springville Herald, third, and Roosevelt Standard, Tremon-ton Tremon-ton Leader, Price Sun-Advocate, and Uintah Basin Record, honorable honor-able mentions. A record number of papers submitted sub-mitted entries this year to the contest, it was. noted by Dr. Oliver Oli-ver R. Smith, department chairman. chair-man. Twenty-four community pub-lisheds pub-lisheds sent entries, which are judged by members of the. Brigham Brig-ham Young University journalism journal-ism staff. Judges were Edwin Butterworth, Franklin R. Haymore and R. Neal Richards. Consideration was given to headline style, headline and body typography, page make-up, illustrations illus-trations and presswork, with ratings rat-ings given for excellence in these areas, the judrcs explained. |
