Show Booklet Explains Importance Of Utah Snow Surveys A summary of snow course histories and snow survey measurements mea-surements in Utah from 1924 to 1947, inclusive, has just been published at Utah State Agricultural Agri-cultural College. The booklet is by D. K. Fuhri-man Fuhri-man of Logan, irrigation engineer, engi-neer, Division of Irrigation, Soil Conservation Service, and was prepared under direction of George D. Clyde of Logan, chief of the division. It is published conjointly by the division and the Utah State Agricultural College Experiment Station. Investigation of possible methods meth-ods of making an advance estimate esti-mate pf streamflow at the beginning be-ginning of the irrigation season was begun ii 1923 by the experiment experi-ment station under readership pf Prof. Clyde, the booklet "reports. "In 1924 the first of the state's snow courses were laid out and measurement of the watershed snow cover begun. . . The program pro-gram grew and annual forecasts of water supply were issued each year in April, beginning in 1925. "At present, the network of active snow courses includes 80 courses located on the various watersheds of Utah and on the Bear River watershed in Idaho." The purpose of the snow sur- veys is to provide farmers and others interested with irrigation water supply estimates in the early spring each year. These supply forecasts are, of course, of considerable aid in planning crpps for he ensuing season-Sngw season-Sngw surveys are the beat means of determining the irrigation supply inasmuch as over 85 per cent of the supply originates as snow on the mountain watersheds. water-sheds.
