Show Diptheria Reaches Total Of 78 Cases Throughout State Diptheria has been increasing in the state over a period of several months, the Utah Department De-partment of Health points out in its weekly report; and up to December 5 the Condition appeared ap-peared to be no better.' Thirty cases were reported for the -week ending December 5, bringing the state-wide total to 78 cases of diptheria for the year. Athough listed for last week, 28 of the 30 cases are delayed reports re-ports going back as far as Oct. 24. The great majority of these cases had the onset of their illness ill-ness during the month of November Novem-ber 25 of them occuring during dur-ing that month. The latter part of October and the week ending December 5 accounted for the remaining 5 which have just been cataloged by the Health Department. It is interesting to note that 12 of the 30 diptheria cases were reported among the Indians from Uintah county. The youngest case being an Indian child 19 months of age and the oldest an Indian of 40, both from the Uintah-Ouray reservation. All of last week's reported cases were from three counties as follows: Uintah, 28; Carbon, 1; Tooele, 1. Most of the diptheria appeared among infants, pre-school and school children, focusing attention atten-tion upon the continued need for immunization of these age groups, the Health Department concluded. |
