Show Nellie loupe W ieign As Indian Queen At Celebration Next Week The Indian Days committee will hold its final session Monday Mon-day evening to write finis to the plans for a great celebration. The enthusiasm with which committee com-mittee heads have tackled their assignments was applauded by General Chairman E. J. Nixon who, with Mayor Homer P. Edwards, Ed-wards, returned Wednesday from Ft. Duchesne to report that the whole-hearted support of the Indians is assured. At Wednesday's meeting with the Ule Tribal Council, Mr. Nixon Nix-on and Mayor Edwards were assured as-sured of tribal financial aid when the Council agreed to match Indian In-dian Days committee funds set up for agricultural exhibits and prizes. The feeling among those who are apportioning celebration funds is that the Tribal Council action will put needed money into in-to an activity which can never be self supporting. The selection of Nellie loupe as Indian queen of the celebration celebra-tion was made during the Tribal Council session. Barbara Murray and Francis Kuch were chosen as her attendants. They will ride on the Ute Indian tribal float in the parade. Meanwhile the events sched- uled for uptown were pressing hard upon the heels of the feature fea-ture attraction, horse racing. Recognized as the top drawing card, the horse races are expected expect-ed to pack the bleachers at the recreational center south of town. But a full round of other events, without which a celebration celebra-tion such as Indian Days becomes mediocre, is in the offing with the city park as the center of operations. To make the uptown portion of the celebration as attractive as the horse races promise to be, Indian programs and exhibits, soft ball games, out-door movies and two nights of public dancing at the tennis court have been included in-cluded in the arrangements. Concessions Con-cessions will be provided both up-town and at the race track. With an eye to drawing tourists, tour-ists, an Indian village will be placed in the center of town adjacent ad-jacent to highway 40. Its development devel-opment on the vacant lot at the corner of Main and Lagoon streets was started Thursday morning. Except for a finishing touch or two Indian Days is ready now to make its bow the morning of Augus 25 wih a program packed with diversified activity. |
