Show BALLARD Max Todd and Arthur Wis-combe Wis-combe represented the Alterra High school at the Future Farmers Farm-ers of America convention at Logan. Lo-gan. They went with Mr. Landan the F F A teacher at Vernal. There will be a benefit dance for Earl Winn and family, who had their home burned. It will be at the Ballard church hall ! Thursday, April 20, at 8 o'clock. The Alterra declamation contest con-test finals were held at the Ballard Bal-lard ward sacrament meeting Sunday. Those participating were Enoch Stolla, Ballard, subject, sub-ject, "Men are that they Might have Joy", Enoch won first place for the boys; Charles Wahl-quist Wahl-quist of Randlett, subject, "Let your light so Shine", and Karl Betts, Ballard, subject, "Repentance". "Repent-ance". Rhea Huber of Lapoint, subject, "Temple Marriage", won first place for the girls; Mary Eksund, Randlett, subject, "Eternal Progression"; Ora Hamaker, subject, Randlett, subject, sub-ject, "The Life of Joseph Smith" and Iova Jorgensen, Randlett, subject, 1'Baptism for the Dead". Dorothy Caldwell sang two solos and Arloa Reynolds of Lapoint gave a piano selection. Presentation Presenta-tion of awards were given by Russell Todd; talk by Ray E. Dillman. The first prize was the combination set of the Book of Mormon, Pearl of Great Price and Doctrine and Covnants, the other participates received the book, "This day and Always" by Richard L. Evans. Mrs. Pearl Jenkins went to Salt Lake to see about her leg which she hurt when she fell some time ago. The Doctor said a piece of the bone was broken off and she will have to stay in bed six weeks longer with her leg in a cast. Mr. and Mrs. Barton of Portland, Port-land, Oregon, spent several days last week visiting their daughter, daugh-ter, Mrs Elbie Winn. Mrs. Winn and baby daughter arc living at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Earl1 Gardner while Mr. Winn is in i i the service. He is now somewhere some-where overseas. J Mrs. Charles Bingham spent' one day at Randlett with her mother, Mrs. Harrison who had ' . i a stroke recently. The three students chosen to represent Alterra High school this year are: Rhea Bracken as valedictorian, Enoch Stolla, sal-utatorian sal-utatorian and Edith Cook, historian. his-torian. A lovely shower was given at the home of Mrs. Angus Anderson Ander-son for Mrs. Winn who just had their home burn down. Many useful gifts were received. Jay Jenkins has been inducted induct-ed in the Marines. lie is back home waiting for his call, i Mrs. Minnie Angus is teaching teach-ing the third and fourth grade at the Ballard school. She is I taking the place of Mrs. Binham. j Mrs. Money Brighton has been to Salt Lake for medical aid. |
