Show Final Rites Basin Pioneer Held Saturday Ipressive funeral services were held at the Roosevelt Ward chapel chap-el Saturday at 2.00 p. m. for James J. Sprouse who died at his home Thursday at 11:30 p. m. after a long' lingering illness. Horace J. Ritchie, Bishop conducted con-ducted the exercises; the following follow-ing took part: A quartette consisting con-sisting of Frank Walker, Curtis Walton, Norma Call and Gertrude Gert-rude Page sang, they were accompanied ac-companied by Mrs. Bartley Hein-er; Hein-er; J. Austin Pack offered the invocation; in-vocation; Frank Walker accompanied accom-panied by Mrs. Bartley Heiner sang; Mrs. Heiner played an organ or-gan solo; Willard Day spoke of his appreciation of the help Mr. Sprouse had given him when he was a boy; Ray E. Dillman spoke of his acquaintance with the family and the sturdy rugged characteristics which were displayed dis-played by Mr. Sprouse, a pioneer in the fullest sense of the word; also of the finer, spiritual feeling feel-ing which he had observed in his life; the quartette sang "Oh, My Father"; B. O. Colton offered the benediction; Bishop Ritchie expressed the appreciation of the family for all the help given to them during the illness and death of Mr. Sprouse. Bishop Ritchie Rit-chie dedicated the grave at the Roosevelt cemetery where interment inter-ment took place. The pall bearers bear-ers were Alden Alexander, Marion Mar-ion Rasmusscn, William Sprouse, Lester Mullins, Ren Johnston and Don Sprouse; Mrs. Ldta Robbins and Mrs. Pearl Moysh took care of the flowers " Mr. Sprouse was born in Oneida, Onei-da, Idaho. December 6, 1867; he married Emma Jensen in Manas-sa, Manas-sa, Colorado and moved to Vernal Ver-nal in 1900; from there they came to Roosevelt and have resided resi-ded here since. Mr. Sprouse was one of the first stage drivers to the Basin; he was a cattle man, rancher and farm owner; his love for fine horses was well known throughout the country. He is survived by his widow and seven sons and daughters: Mrs. Zella McGee and Dick Sprouse, Salt Lake City; Mrs. Cora Johnston, Harry Sprouse, Kenneth Sprouse and Sam Sprouse, all of Roosevelt and Mrs. Belle Leonard of Anaheim, California; two brothers, Baylus Sprouse and William Sprouse; and one sister, Mrs. Nancy John-i John-i ston; eighteen grandchildren and five great grandchildren. |
