In order to reach the sharp ascent as-cent of a canyon, the track was ouilt in the form of a spiral, where by it circled and looped Itself, one circle of the loop passing over the oUl'.i'. At the time it was built it was considered one of the notable railroad rail-road engineering projects of the day. It was known and crossed over by thousands of travellers, .vhile pictures of the structure were seen in many school text-books.
