Show A Calamity Cry In a recent sermon, a New Jersey pastor made a statement that sounds quite familiar as follows: "There is lawlessness everywhere. Children no longer obey their parents. par-ents. It is evident that the end of the age is at hand. Then the pastor told his congregation congre-gation that the words were not original or-iginal with him not even an utter-. ance ot tne present day. They were translated from an inscription on a brick found in the ruins of ancient -Assyria, dating centuries before the time of the patriarch Abraham. Records which have been preserved pre-served during all periods of recorded record-ed history give evidence of similat conditions existing in the world. Sometimes an improvement is noted; not-ed; again lawlessness and violence become more prevalent than ever. While present day conditions art bad enough, it seems that on the v.'hole they are better than in the past. There is more thought given giv-en to the relief of suffering, to the betterment of industrial conditions, to mutual helpfulness and like matters of benefit to humanity than in former times. Although the world war gave civilization civ-ilization a severe set-back in sorr.:.-respects, sorr.:.-respects, we must remember that j war has marked the history of ev-! ery generation of mankind. The1 same is true of lawlessness, oppres- sion and every other manifestation ' of immorality. j These will always exist In greater or less degree, so long as good and evil struggle for mastery in the hearts and minds of men. i |
