The undisputed prestige enjoyed by this orchestra throughout the Chautauqua circuits of the country is due to two things. Xot only does its conductor, Witepskie, Witep-skie, stand among the front rank of the country's great orchestra directors, di-rectors, but his organization includes perhaps more feature soloists than any orche tra of a similar character before the public. Repeatedly at Lincoln, Nebraska, and Gladstone, Oregon, Chautau quas, two of the largest assemblies in the United States, the Chautauqua Symphony Orchestra has drawn the record crowds. The rousing enthusiasm en-thusiasm and ecstatic fervor awakened by this company of musicians is at times almost unbelievable. Music is the universal appeal. To old and young, rich and poor, music lovers or not, a great orchestra is the same magnet. The great classics as played by Witepskic's superb orchestra will carry you to the heights, their popular music will start you humming and their stirring patriotic airs will literally sweep you before them. |
