Show LENGTH OF WIRELESS WAVE Naturally It Is Four Times That of the Aerial, but This Does Not Always Hold Good. In articles of wireless telegraph such expressions as 200-meter m lengths, 600-meter wave-lengths, 1" OOO-meter wave-lengths are constant used. In reply to a correspondent wi asks how the length of the waved measured the Scientific American gite the following simple explanation: "The length of an electric wave t determined by a wave-meter. Then;: ural wave-length of an aerial Is fir times its liuear length, just as tt wave-length of a note of a closed k gan pipe Is four times the length of i-pipe, i-pipe, and the wave-length of the H-of H-of a tuning fork is four times it-length it-length of the box which is reasons wilh the note. However, others siderations make it difficult to mm the wave-length by a rule, and wave-meter gives a more correct tt suit than can be found by meastir!:; the length of the wire." |
