Show Former Viking Stars Playing For Y This Year Following is a press release from the Brigham Young University about two Pleasant Pleas-ant Grove young men on the Y football team. Two former all-state halfbacks from Pleasant Grove are making their presence felt on the Brig-ham Brig-ham Young University football team this fall. Hal Lewis, a junior letterman at left halfback and Paul Allen, a sophomore wingback last season, sea-son, are both backs with great breakaway speed, who prove constant con-stant threats if they can find any daylight. Hal, although only 154 pounds and 5 feet 9 inches, managed to lead the Cougars in punt re- turns as a sophomore with nine for 141 yards or almost 16 yards per carry. The little speedster has also averaged 19.5 on four kickoff returns. Paul ' proved to be the bell-weather bell-weather of a mediocre frosh squad which managed only one win in four outings. The six feet 175 pound sophomore lead the frosh in rushing and will be a top varsity prospect as soon as he picks up some experience. Scatback Lewis, used as a substitute sub-stitute for all-conference left halfback Nyle McFarlane, managed man-aged to place sixth in team rushing rush-ing picking up 133 yards in 44 carries. He also scored two touchdowns touch-downs for the Cougars in '58. With one more year of 'eligibility 'eligibil-ity left, Lewis will be counted on heavily in future Oat grid wars. The same will be trua of Allen, once he picks up experience. Both players have run the dash's in high school and are noted for their exceptional speed. Lewis has a good change of pace and can cut well, making his small frame an illusive target. |
