Show Conference Session on Easter Sunday Attended by 1252 People; Mark Petersen Presides One thousand two hundred and fifty two people were in attendance attend-ance at the opening General Session Ses-sion of Quarterly Conference in the Timpanogos Stake Tabernacle Sunday Sun-day morning. The session opened at 10 a.m. with Elder Mark E. Petersen of the Council of Twelve presiding and President Merrill N. Warniek conducting. Representing the Welfare Wel-fare organization of the church was Elder LeRoy Wirthlin. Conference opened with the congregation con-gregation singing,"We Thank Thee O God for a Prophet" accompanied by Hay Haycock and Rdsalie Richards, Rich-ards, and directed by Earl A. Beck, stake chorister. Invocation was by M. S. Chris-tianson. Chris-tianson. Pleasant Grove High School A Cappella choir, directed by Leslie Rees sang two numbers, "Lost in the Night," and "Who Shall Ascend." As-cend." with Carol Pulley soloist. First speaker was President Warniek, who, after welcoming the Saints, told of his travels among various peoples throughout the country and testified to the truth of the gospel. President Vilace Radmall in his talk told how parents may cooperate cooper-ate with the youth program. Young people who spoke on assigned as-signed subjects were Mary Ann Movie, "How I gained a testi- Mrs. Virginia Young gave an inspiring talk on the Family Hour. President Lewis E. Olpin, spoke and was followed by Elder LeRoy Wirthlin. Concluding speaker of the conference con-ference was the presiding authority, author-ity, Mark E. Petersen, who chose again to speak of Easter, Christs death and resurrection and the resurrection res-urrection of all mankind. The Third Ward choir sang the closing number, "Blessed Are They That Have the Faith." Reed O. Walker, High Priests Quorum president, pronounced the benediction. The 7 :30 session was a Youth Conference directed by Stake MIA superintendent Grant Fugal, who conducted. Congregation sang- "I Know That My Redeemer Lives" accompanied by Colleen Marrott, and directed by Ruth Shoell. Invocation was offered by Willis Larson. Superintendent Fugal presented basketball trophies to the championship champ-ionship Grove ward team and the sportsmanship trophy to the Second Sec-ond Ward and the attendance trophy tro-phy to Lindon Second ward. mony;"Boyd Warniek, "Influence and Power of Prayer;" and Jane Iverson, "What Prayer Means to Me." Elder Wirthlin of the Church Welfare organization stressed the fact that prophecies of Church leaders are always fulfilled. Elder Mark E. Petersen in his forceful manner adhered to the theme of Easter, and the Resurrection Resur-rection of the Savior, and what it means to the Christian world and to all mankind. He quoted "As in Adam, all men die, so in Christ, shall all men be made alive." The high school choir sang "Lord to Thee Our Hearts are Raise.d" Benediction was pronounced by C. A. Gamett. At the 2:30 session, with President Presi-dent Warniek conducting, Invocation Invoca-tion was offered by William C. Smith. An Easter Song, by the Third Ward choir directed by Mary Var-ney, Var-ney, accompanied by Janiel Fugal and Lois Fugal was on the program. pro-gram. A special feature was the tribute paid to the three Pleasant Grove winning coaches, Thomas Adamson, Adam-son, M-Men; Ned Alger, high school football and Don Crump, high school basketball. Each spoke briefly as did also Principal A. J. Rogers. In the junior league of the M-Men M-Men the Sixth ward received the stake championship trophy, Grove ward the sportsmanship award and Sixth ward the attendance trophy. The MIA stake chorus, directed by Ruth Shoell and acompanied by Janiel Fugal sang "The Lord is a Mighty God." Loraine Adams, Junior Gleaner leader presented silver gleaner awards to Patricia Pack, Lindon and Beth Stott, stake gleaner leader, lead-er, presented Golden Gleaner a-wards a-wards to Beverly W. Merrill and Dona W. Wall. Lowell Baxter, M-Men leader, presented Master M-Men awards to Leland Carlson and Ruby Fugal stake president, presented Honorary Honor-ary Golden Gleaner awards to Oral Wright, and Lowell Baxter the honorary Master M-Man award to Patriarch David B. Thorne. The chorus sang "No Man Is an Island." An Easter narration was presented presen-ted from the Book of John. Irene Ostergaard was the narrator. Others Oth-ers participating were Warren Kirk, Paul Christofferson, George Paul, Bob Penrod, Anna Hanson. The conference closed with the chorus singing "The Good Lord Bless and Keep You."
