Show VIKINGS DUMP OREM 6-0 LAST FRIDAY NITE It was a battle of the defensives last Friday night at the local ball park. Neither the Vikings nor the Orem Tigers had much luck in the point-getting department until the first of the last quarter, when the Battle Creek boys sneaked over the I goal line for a six-pointer, which was all the scoring for either team during the evenings activities. activ-ities. Just prior to the end of the third canto, the Vikings knocked at the Tiger door several times only on-ly to find it shut tight. After the teams reversed ends of the field, the P.G. boys tried a line play which got nowhere and then Paul Allen carried over on an end around sweep. Gene Ash's conversion con-version kick was blocked. Score P.G. 6, Orem 0. As to the game itself, it was typically a pre-season contest. It was largely an "every man for himself" affair on the part of both teams from start to finish. Ball carriers received little help from teammates and on occasion got things mixed up and ran the wrong way. From the point of view of both coaching staffs the game was invaluable in-valuable since it showed up strong points, weak points, and shaped up the work to be done before the "play for keeps" games start this Friday night. As to the Vikings, much needs to be done before they play like the B-champions of 1955. Potentially Poten-tially they are a good aggregation and should immeasurably improve as time goes on. This scribe predicts that the Ned Alger coached squad will be a far different team when the chips are down tomorrow night. The Friday, Sept. 22 league opener op-ener is with American Fork, and when the Vikings and Cavemen meet the proverbial fur always flies. 7:30 is the time and the game will be staged at the Pleasant Pleas-ant Grove ball park. |
