Show Community Fair Very Successful Says Lions Club President Pleasant Grove's annual Community Com-munity Fair, held last Friday, was a remarkable success, according to Lion Club president George Jaynes. "Other civic clubs, women's wo-men's organizations, church groups and schools and individuals cooperated co-operated loyally in calling attention atten-tion to Pleasant Grove's birthday; and to the many worthwhile things we are doing here. We are sincerely sin-cerely appreciative of the efforts of all," said Mr. Jaynes. Mr. Jaynes explained that the children's fairs at Central and Grovecrest Schools were outstanding outstand-ing and the exhibits of flowers, fruits, vegetables and handicraft at the high school gymnasium were the best seen for many years. The pie baking contest, sponsored sponsor-ed by the Pleasant Grove Canning Company and the Star Flour Mills of American Fork, stimulated considerable con-siderable interest and participation Winners of the $10, $5, and $2.50 prizes respectively in each division were as follows: For cherry pies, Betty Moyle, Lela McAffee, and Viola Morton. For pumpkin pies, Nelda Wadley, Mrs. Dan Price and Mrs. Malcolm Christiansen. With respect to farm crop exhibits, ex-hibits, the display by the local chapter of the Future Farmers of America took top honors. The chapter members and their instructor, in-structor, Willis Banks, deserve a lot of credit. The 4-H display under the direction dir-ection of Mrs. Merrill Wamick stimulated much favorable comment. com-ment. Other displays of better than average quality include the Leather Leath-er Work of George Taylor, Rocks and Minerals by Dennis Fullerton, the fine art display prepared by Harold Woolston, "Covers the World" display by the Baptist Church, Handiwork by the Relief Societies and the fine display of the Forest Service. ' Mr. Jaynes and Fair chairmen Niels Fugal and Nile Smith all expressed the hope that . future community fairs may continue to improve in scope and excellence. |
