Show PI. Grove News Boy Scouts Run City for Day Last Thursday of Boy Scout Week, the scouts ran the city for the day. iThe city council met at 10:30 a. m. and the boys were appointed to city offices. Rex Walker, acted as mayor, may-or, Fred Keetch, Henson Walker, Manson and Vein Marrott council-men; council-men; Dale Richards, recorder, and Ray Downs, treasurer. City appointments were Dean Gray and Don Gamett, city marshals; mar-shals; Glen Robertson, fire chief; Samuel Hilton Jr., city sexton; Howard Ho-ward Greene, city watermaster, Austin Aus-tin Dittmore, inspector of provisions; Dale West, city attorney; Glen Nelson, Nel-son, city justice of the peace; Chiton Chi-ton Wadley, city physician, Don Hilton, Hil-ton, city poundkeeper; Leo Eves, dog tax collector; Jack Kirk, inspector inspec-tor of buildings, and Ray Nelson, night watchman. Various committees within the city council were selected, patterned after the city council committees. A city council meeting was held at 3 p. m. by the Boy Scout Council and the jobs were handed back to the city officials. During the day Marshal Dean Gray arrested Eldon Johnson for parking in the restricted zone at the head of Main street. His case was tried before city justice of the peace, Glen Nelson. After a severe lecture he was released on his promise pro-mise to observe this law in the future. fut-ure. M. S. Christiansen was arrested for running through a stop signal at the head of State street, he parked double and carried wood protruding from the rear of his truck without a red flag on it. He was given another an-other chance. The boys were on the job every minute. At the close of the day reports re-ports of various officials were given, i The boys are citizens in the making mak-ing and will no doubt some day carry car-ry positions like the ones they held for a day. o |
