Show Book Shower Set For Monday The "book shower" which the Ladies Literary Club and the Junior Jun-ior Ladies Literary League of this city are sponsoring will be given next Monday afternoon, February 18th, at 3 o'clock in the auditorium of the city hall- The previous announcement an-nouncement was that- the program would be given at night, but due to a conflict with other meetings, the change was made. All women are requested to be present that the program may commence at 3 o'clock prompt. This plan was devised by the clubs as a means of providing for the public through the medium of the public library, more reading material. ma-terial. In these times of unemployment unemploy-ment the call at the library for good books to read has boosted the circulation to a gratifying extent and the number of patrons is increasing. in-creasing. The supply of books, dependent de-pendent upon public tax money, has not been commensurate with the demand. de-mand. It is not only with the thought in mind that a civic good turn can be done by giving a book shower, but the two literary clubs believe that a common slogan "More and Better Reading" will be put to a practical demonstration- A splendid program has been arranged ar-ranged for the occasion- Miss Bessie Bes-sie Newman of the high school faculty fac-ulty will read a one-act play "The Duchess Says Her Prayer" and there will be instrumental and vocal numbers including selections by the double trio of the Ladies Literary club. Every woman's organization of the city, some twenty-four in number, num-ber, has been contacted and each member given a cordial invitation to attend- The admittance fee will be one book from their home library libra-ry which will be donated to the public pub-lic library and the sponsors of the program feel that there are many, many books lying on bopk shelves in our homes which have given enjoyment en-joyment to the family and which the owners will be glad to share the enjoyment of with others- Books which serve only as "space fillers" such as obsolete and discarded text books, of course are not desired. If there are women in the city who are not affiliated -with any organization or-ganization and who have not received re-ceived the invitation to attend, this means is taken to invite, them also. al-so. It is expected there will be a large attendance and every woman present may feel she is doing her bit in a good community cause. n |
