' Ha-liday. i Another of those good "Old Folks" dances will be given next Wednesday Wednes-day night in the Apollo Hall. Help the committee by attending the dance, and at the same time have a. good evening's fun. Good music. j At the Apollo Hall next Wednesday Wednes-day night the Old Folks Committee 1 will give a dance to which the public pub-lic is invited. The proceeds go to the committee treasury to entertain the aged each year. Everyone always al-ways has a good time at the Old Folks dances. Friends of Mrs. Leonard Haag, Jr., will be pleased to leam her condition con-dition is much improved and she is now able to sit up for a little while each day. Mrs. Haag has been seriously ill. She is at the home of ;her sister, Mrs. LeGrange Miller in the Rosa Grant Apartments. The Junior girls of the Second ward M. I. A. and their teachers, Mrs. Henry Chipman and Miss Sarah Sar-ah Earl entertained the mothers of the girls at the home of Miss Earl Wednesday night. The playing of "Bunco" was enjoyed by all, followed by the serving of a tasty lunch. Twenty-two were present. Am. Fork Locals Mr. and Mrs. WUMm Lee and family fam-ily of Eureka were Monday dinner guests here of Mr. and Mrs. Ted Lee. Mr. and Mrs. Erin Bigler of Huntington, Hunt-ington, Park, California, have been here this week visiting with Mre. Blgler's mother, Mrs. Melissa Boley, and with other relatives. Mr. and Mrs. Glen Taylor and family spent Sunday In Provo with Mrs. Taylor's parents, Mr. and Mrs. D. J. Reese. Mrs. Emma Faster and son Francis returned Saturday from a visit In Ogden of two weeks with Mr. and Mrs. Leon Whipple and son. The Whlpples brought them to American Fork Saturday and returned Sunday to their home. The members of the Young Men's and Young Ladies' boards of the 6tako Mutual Iimprovement Association Asso-ciation entertained Monday night at the home of Mrs. M. H. Ingersoll. The guests included Clifford E. Young, stake president; Dr. P. M. Kelly of St. Anthony, Idaho, a visitor visi-tor here the first of the week; former form-er stake superintendent Junius A. West and wife of Pleasant Grove; Roy Greenwood, recently released from the stake superintendency, and his wife, as well as the partners of the board members. In all, forty were present. A business meeting occupied the forepart of the evening, following which various games were played and a delicious lunch was served. Mrs. Leo T. Shelley spent last week-end In Magna with her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Dee Strong and their family. Mr. and Mrs. Leo Nelson and daughter enjoyed the holidays in Boise, Idaho, with Mrs. Nelson's parents, Mr. and Mrs. R. I. Goodwin. Good-win. Dr. P. M. Kelly, formerly of this city, but now a resident of St. Anthony, An-thony, Idaho, spent the first of the week here with relatives and friends. He left for his home Wednesday. The wives of the American Fork firemen were given a practical demonstration dem-onstration of their husband's skill in the culinary art last Saturday evening when the men served then-wives then-wives a delicious chicken supper in the social hall above the fire station. The menu included besides the roast chicken and dressing, mashed potatoes, pota-toes, gravy, fruit salad, vegetables, cake, pumpkin pie and coffee and the men did themselves proud not only in the preparation but in the serving as well. Following the supper sup-per an illustrated lecture was given, being one of the series of educational meetings which the firemen have been holding. The film and machine ma-chine were borrowed from the Logan department, the pictures depicting the proper ventilation of buildings, Chief I. L. Pratt gave the explanatory explana-tory lecture. There were twenty-two present. Chief Pratt met with the Pleasant Grove firemen Monday night and gave them the same illu-srated illu-srated lecture. Mr. and Mrs. Fen-en Sag';r entertained enter-tained at an oyster supper following j the dance, at their home last Satur- I day night. Their guests were Miss; Alice Clark of Alpine and King Drys-dale Drys-dale of Pleasant Grove. Mlss Clark remained over Sunday as guest of the SagerH. L. B. Acmmson, principal of the I Junior High School, will meet with the Senior Class of the First ward M. I. A. next Tuesday night and will give the outlined lesson on schools. ' The teachers in charge of the class invite all members to be present. Mrs. Rulon Nicholes was hostess last Friday afternoon to the Variety club members and several special guests. Bridge occupied the afternoon, after-noon, Mrs. Frank Brown capturing the guest prize and Mrs. Kenneth Brown the club prize. A delicious lunch was served at the small tables. The special guests were Mrs. Kenneth Ken-neth Noyes, Mrs. Frank Brown and Mrs. A. B. Alien. The Senior class of the First ward M. I. A. held an open night entertainment enter-tainment Tuesday night in the ward chapel with the class recreation committee com-mittee in charge. Games were played, play-ed, prizes being awarded Jack Iver-son Iver-son and Mrs. Clarence Grant. Refreshments Re-freshments were served. Special guests were the members of the presidency and superintendency of the organization. There were twenty twen-ty four present. In honor of the birthdays of Mrs. Melissa Boley, S. W. Chipman and T. J. Chipman, which occurred Thursday, Thurs-day, January 4th, the brothers and sisters met at the S. W. Chipman home, and enjoyed a social. A program pro-gram was enjoyed including talks by each of the honored guests. Gene-ological Gene-ological work was discussed by those present and Mrs. Boley and S, W. Chipman were appointed chairmen to arrange for a reunion of the des-cendents des-cendents of W. H. Chipman. An original poem by Mrs. Mary E. Abel was read by Mrs. Ruth C. Hansen and S. W. Chipman sang "They'll Never Miss the Water 'Till The Well Runs Dry". Games, stories, jokes and the singing of old time favorite songs by all present were indulged in. Refreshments were then served. The dining table was covered with a lace cloth and was centered with a birthday cake on either side of which stood tapers. A bouquet of sweet peas each was presented to the honored guests. There were twenty-four present, Including from out of the city, Mr. and Mrs. T. J. Chipman of Helper; Dr. and Mrs. Atlantic Christensen and Miss Merle Chipman of Salt Lake ;Dr. and Mrs. C. C. Randall of Logan. About two hundred fifty persons attended the social given by the Alpine Al-pine stake Presidency, Clifford E. Coung, Earl S. Greenwood and Jesse M. Walker; the stake clerk, Eli J. Clayson, and the members of the stake High Council. The social was held last Friday night in the Second ward chapel and amusement hall, and there were present among the guests, President Heber J. Grant and his wife of Salt Lake; Abel J. Evans of Lehi, of the former Alpine stake presidency, and. his wife; Mr. and Mrs. John L. Firmage, who were spending the holidays here from Long Beach, California. The social opened with all assembling assemb-ling in the chapel where a short meeting was held. President Grant spoke and Abel John Evans expressed express-ed his appreciation at mingling again with the workers of Alpine stake. After the meeting everyone was Invited into , the amusement hall where dancing was enjoyed. Miss Wilma Jepson of the B. Y. U. was present and conducted a number of social mixers which made everyone feel right at home. During the dancing refreshments were served in the basement of the hall. The party was attended by all the members of the boards of the auxiliary auxil-iary organizations of the stake and the executives of the priesthood quorums, and was enjoyed by all. . - t Mrs. W. B. Smith entertained at dinner Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. R. E. Monson and family were the guests. Mr. and Mrs. R. E. Monson entertained enter-tained at dinner Friday for Mr. and Mrs. Heber Harrington of Salt Lake, and Miss Ida Harrington of this city. Mrs. Marian Fage and daughter, Norma, have returned home after spending the holidays in Salt Lake. Mrs. Leo Roberts (Grace Walker) of Idaho Falls, Idaho, is here spending spend-ing the week with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Vern Walker. Rehearsals are well under way by a group of experienced players of the First ward on the three-act play "Square Crooks", a royalty production, produc-tion, which will be presented in the near future. Mrs. T. A. Greenwood and Mrs. A. F. Gaisford, Jr., are in charge of the play, which will be given as the first of the series of entertainments scheduled under the new ward budget plan. Mrs. Thelma Marrott of Pleasant Grove was hostess last Thursday afternoon to the Feality Club here at the home of her mother, Mrs. James Varney. Bridge was played, Mrs. Glen Robinson winning the club prize and Mrs. LeRoy Thorne the guest favor. In the afternoon a delicious lunch was served. The special guests biddenTvere mesdames C. O. Jensen, Howard Mathews, LeRoy Le-Roy Thorne and Jennie F. Halliday of Pleas-ant Grove; Mrs. Gladys Fowler and Mrs. Lela Evans of Lehi. A. A. Firmage, business man of Logan, has tendered his resignation as head of: the Cache county civil works administration. His resignation resigna-tion has been pending some time although al-though various agencies have made attempts to induce him to reconsider recon-sider and remain on the job. He has long been connected with the relief re-lief problems of Cache county, has been active with the Red Cross and was named administrator of the R. F. C. emergency fund in that county last fall. The press of personal business affairs which he has been unable to give attention to has brought about his resignation. Mr. Firmage is a son of Mr. and Mrs. William Firmage of this city. |
