Show PG Sophs edge West Panthers 201 By JACK HILL Pleasant Grove's sophomore football team edged West 20-12 Thursday in the season opener for both teams. The Vikes took a 6-0 lead early in the second period when Gage Hansen took a screen pass from Ryan Thomas and followed Rick Swift and Nathan Davis 13 yards in for the score. The extra point kick was short. On the following kickoff, West' rambled 78 yards to tie the score. Their extra point hit the upright and was no good. Just before half, Ben Morris used the same blockers on the same screen play to put the Vikes on top 12-0 and Jon Kortman kicked the extra point making it 13-6 at halftime. Gary Sanderson, who had an outstanding game defensively, recovered re-covered a West fumble in the first half as did Morris. PG found a flaw in the West defense to open the second half and drove 70 yards for another touchdown. touch-down.
