Show Alpine School District adopts 'mission statement' With the adoption of an official District "Mission Statement," Alpine School District has become one of the first school districts in the state to endorse philosophically philosophi-cally a plan to restructure public education. The statement outlines in broad terms the official educational goals of the district, officials said, and parallels a similar document formulated by the State Office of Education. The policy has been under consideration con-sideration since July when it was presented at the boards' monthly business meeting. The approved statement sav "The mission of the Alpine School District is to empower each student stu-dent to function effectively in society soci-ety as a competent, productive, caring, and responsible citizen." Goals of a system built on this mission are to "involve students as full partners in their pursuit of learning and accountable for their actions; enlarge parental and community com-munity involvement to enhance school and student success; and establish a curriculum and an instructional in-structional delivery system that has measurable outcomes." Also to "ensure that every school is an effective learning center with a positive learning climate; increase the sensitivity, effectiveness, efficiency, effi-ciency, and satisfaction of teachers, teach-ers, administrators, and other educational professionals; (and) increase learning and productivity through technology." Dr. Steven Baugh, district superintendent, earlier said one of the prime objectives of a school board is to provide long-term planning plan-ning and vision for a district. He said the Shift in Focus mission mis-sion statement provides that vision. |
