New look to Barratt's Barratt Builders Supply Co. has a new look with recent completion of remodeling of the store. Located at 35 North Barratt Avenue, the store is a "Trustworthy Hardware Store" and stocks items to fill the hardware needs of it's customers. Ted Burton Barratt, president of Barratt Builders, said one of the original walls of the building, in-stalled in about 1947, has been taken out as part of the remodeling and all displays have been turned so they now run north and south. This involved moving everything in the store, "lock, stock and barrell," Barratt said. The electrical, bath hardware and plumbing supply departments have been expanded and the firm now stocks oak lumber and oak moldings. They also now carry Trustworthy brand paint which is manufactured by Valspar, one of the largest paint manufactures in the world, Barratt said. This paint is high quality but is competitivly priced, he said. The firm was one of the original Trustworthy dealers in the state, and Barratt is a member of the Jensen Bryd board, representing Trustworthy dealers from south Idaho to St. George. Barratt's opened a store in Spanish Fork in March of 1985, with Randy Barratt directing, it's operation. Barratt Builders is one of American Fork's long time businesses, incorporated on February 18, 1947, by Thomas A. j Barratt, his wife, Ann P. Barratt, ' Harry E. Barratt, Glen C. Barratt and Fred D. (Ted) Barratt. Thomas A. Barratt, grandfather ll of Ted Burton, was president and general manager, with Harry' vice v president; Glen, secretary; and Ted, treasurer. Thomas Barratt had been manager of Chipman Mercantile Co. Lumber Department for 32 years, and all of his sons had had extensive experience in retail and wholesale business when they decided to go into business for themselves. When Mrs. Barratt died in 1961, it was decided to reorganize the lumber yard. The elder Barratt retired from the business and Preston and Glen left for firm to pursue other ventures. Harry Barratt was then sustained as president and Ted as secretary and treasurer. Thomas A. Barratt passed away in 1967, and in 1971, Harry decided to retire or sell the business. Ted consulted with his sons Ted Burton and Stephen and they decided to purchase it, taking over on Jan. 1, 1972. Ted was named president with Ted Burton, vice president, and Stephen C, secretary-treasure- r. Under Ted's leadership, the hardware store grew from 2,000 square feet to almost 9,000, and its lumber department covered from 100 West to 200 West and South onto Main Street. He served as president until Jan. 1, 1979 when he resigned because of the heart disease which caused his passing in August of 1979. Ted Burton is now president of the firm with Randy K. Barratt, another brother, vice president, secretary and treasurer. Beth Barratt Eggett, their mother, serves on the firm's board of directors.
