Grove C of C installs new officers Pleasant Grove Chamber of Commerce held a general meeting recently to honor the g president and install new officers. Dennis Barnett, retiring president, was presented with a plaque in recognition of his ser vices. Dr. Joe Gee, who was president before Dennis, was presented with an engraved pen set. Marcella Walker was named as the new Chamber president, with Laurel Kindred as president-elec- t and Sue Ann Maxfield ( secretarytreasurer. ' - . - iW if'' - Grovecrest Elementary School teacher, Mr. Bell, and two students, Christopher Young and Brook Phipps, present the quilt their class made as a service project. Grovecrest class makes quilt as fundraiser Sixth grade students of Mr. Bell's class at Grovecrest Elementary School, have completed a queen-size- d quilt to earn money as a class service project. A drawing will be held on Feb. 20 at Grovecrest's Patriotic Assembly to determine the winner and proceeds will be divided between the library book fund and the sixth grade field trip fund. The class donated the money for materials as well as their time and talents. We would like to thank all those who have given their support as sewing coaches and ticket pur-chasers. There are still tickets available, at $1 each, for those interested and the quilt is on display in the foyer at Grovecrest Elementary School. PGHS parent conferences Feb. 26, 27 Pleasant Grove High School Parent-Teach- Conferences will be held Feb. 26 and 27 from 6 to 9 p.m. in the Boys Gym. A misprint in a Provo daily newspaper listed Pleasant Grove Junior High's Parent-Teache- r Conference dates as those for Pleasant Grove High School. High school students will be out of school on Tuesday, Feb. 18, to make up for the Parent-Teache- r ft ferences on Feb. 26 and 27. Students are also out of Feb. 17, for Preside! Day holiday. Valentine treats By KALYN SECRETAN The y holiday has been a festival of romance since the days of ancient Rome. After the coming of Christianity, the holiday was named in honor of Bishop Valentine. Heart-shape- d foods and red and pink foods seem to say "Be My Valentine" on this special day. Favorite items are heart-shape- d cookies or cupcakes. Sandwiches cut in the shape of a heart and served with your favorite filling taste gopd on Valentine's. Cin-namon rolls can be baked in a heart-shape- d pan. For chocolate lovers, brownies are great with a candy heart decoration added to each piece. Brownies 2 cups sugar 2 cups flour 4 eggs 2 squares margarine k cup cocoa V2 tsp. salt Cream margarine and sugar, add eggs and beat well. Add dry ingredients and stir into mixture. Pour into an 8x12 cake pan and bake at 350 for 25-3- 0 minutes. Thimble Cookies 2 squares margarine or butter ' 2 cup sufar 2 eggs, separated 2 tsps. vanilla 2 cups flour nuts or coconut jam or jelly Cream butter, add sugar. Mix well. Add egg yolks, vanilla and flour. Shape into balls and dip in unbealep egg white. Then roll in chopped nuts or coconut. Place on cookie sheet and dent with a thimble. Bake at 350 for five minutes. Dent again and bake for 10 minutes. Fill dent with jelly while hot. Cherry Slice 2 cup butter 1'2 cups flour 2 Tbsp. sugar tsp. salt Mix together and bake for 10 minutes at 350. Topping: 2 eggs, beaten l'i cups brown sugar 2 tsp. baking powder 2 cup coconut 1 cup cherries '2 cup walnuts Bake for 20-2- 5 minutes at 325. Ice with plain icing. Raspberry Bars 1 cup flour 1 tsp. baking powder 2 cup butter 1 tsp. milk 1 egg, beaten Mix as for pastry and spread over pan. Spread with raspberry jam. Then cover with the following: 1 cup sugar 2 cups coconut i square margarine 1 tsp. vanilla 1 egg, beaten Cream butter and sugar, add eggs, vanilla and coconut. Bake at 350 for 30-3- 5 minutes. |
