Show Lifeguard instruction available at Orem center By Mary Coons Bill Hoglund, Superintendent of Parks and Recreation for Pleasant Grove City, would like to announce to those that would work at the swimming pool this summer, that there will be a lifeguard training course at the Orem Fitness Center on Thursdays from 6 to 9 p.m., and Saturdays from 8 to 11 a.m., starting star-ting the first of April. The cost established by the Fitness Fit-ness Center is $20. Students will also be expected to pay $1.50 for printed materials that will be handed out, and $6.50 for the textbook. Students will also be required to provide their own mask, fins, and snorkel for one of the sessions. To register, students can call Orem Recreation at 224-7155 or the Red Cross at 373-8580. 373-8580. Candidates for Lifeguard Training must meet the course requirements, which includeO They must be 16 years of age, have a valid Advanced Lifesaving Certificate, Cer-tificate, Standard First Aid Cer tificate (minimum) and a CPR Certificate. These cards will be asked for on the first night of class. They are absolute prerequisites and a student may not proceed with Lifeguard training without them. Mr. Hoglund also reminds those that don't meet the basic requirements to take the Lifeguard Training Course, the American Red Cross will be teaching classes in CPR and Standard First Aid at Provo Recreation.
