The prayer given by Beth Ann Field. .The report on museum activities and business was given by curator Alta Hone. "Show and Tell" of pioneer family keepsakes was by Lurena Warnick, who showed a dress copied from one her great-grandmoth-had made on the first , sewing machine brought into the valley. This grandmother helped make costumes for the actors of the old Salt Lake Theatre rather than loaning the machine to the theatre. Lurena also showed lace collars and other dress accessories this had given her, along with long silk glovelets and other treasures. Lurena was named for this great grandmother. A special musical number, "Pioneer Happenings in song and Story" was given by Shelley and Valerie Peterson and Leesa Brown. They sang and n auaiU a luiieei a ip aci oss the plains. It was well done and ap-preciated. The lesson, "The year 1886," was given by Effie Adams. He was a pioneer of 1853, and one of the early settlers of Manila. The family has recently published a book of his life and family. Special thanks were given to Eva Reynolds for two lovely bouquets of fall flowers. Refreshments were served by the Manila camp to approximately 50 members and guests. On Monday, Sept. 8, the D.U.P. camps of Pleasant Grove, Battle Creek and Manila held their opening meeting in the Pioneer Museum. Each year this meeting recognizes the birthday of Pleasant Grove. The meeting was under the direction of the Manila Camp. Effie Adams, Captain, read a poem by Harrison R. Merrill, "Dreams Come True," introducing the opening song, "America the Beautiful." While teaching a Relief Society class to mothers on entertaining children, Merlene began to compile the best ideas she had accumulated throughout her teaching experience and it led to this book. ' The Fun Collection has chapters in hat making, paper bag art, paper plate art, scissor art, paper folding art, patterns for masks and more. You can look for ideas such as dryer lint modeling clay, homemade fudge made from a package of pudding, or painting with "magic" water which forms crystals when it .dries. ! It features: 1. Chapters organized according to the materials used in doing the project. 2. Step-by-ste- p directions. 3. Full-size- d patterns, ready to copy. 4. Suggested age levels for each project. ' . 5. Photos and illustrations, on, many projects to clarify. - 6. An extensive index. 7. Lists of all necessary materials and equipment at the top of each project. This book would be a tremendous aid to anyone dealing with children, especially mothers and teachers. It would be a wonderful help in planning Family Home Evening activities, games- and treats. John recently- - retired as a prin-dp- al in the Alpine School District. J ie was the principal at Pleasant trove High School for 13 years and most recently served as principal of American Fork Junior High School. Educational Administration from BYU. He has served in the high council, stake presidency, and in a mission presidency. JoAnn has served as Primary president, Relief Society president, and as a teacher in all of the auxiliaries. The Gourleys are the parents of four children of their own and in - addition, they have had three foster Indian boys, plus one girl from South America, a boy from Thailand, and one Japanese girl. They have 11 grandchildren. They will be in the mission field for 18 months.
