Show Neighbors to new Storehouse Market recommend Hie Lindon City Council held a special redevelopment meeting Sept. 11 concerning the Storehouse Market proposal. Neighbors were contacted individually in-dividually by Redevelopment Consultants, Cole Durham and Eugene Jacobs. While several expressed they can live with the Storehouse Market, others openly oppose the project altogether. A list of 20 recommendations we placed on the Participation Agreement concerning such issues entrances from State Street, designing of the traffic coming off We Street, adequate turning lanes State Street onto Main Street and truck parking and redesigning of Main Street to slow traffic coming from State Street. Other recommendations were: Adequate turning lanes and the recommendation for a signal light at Center and State, location of docks and garbage facilities, appropriate ap-propriate landscaping and buffering. buf-fering. Installation of curb, gutter and sidewalk around the site, existing ditch lines should be piped in a way to allow for storm drain and serve as a conduit for irrigation water. One resident complained that Lindon does not want the market, but the Lindon City Council wants the increased revenue. "We are being sold for 30 pieces of silver", expressed a neighbor. A major concern was taking 10 feet off Main Street neighbors said in the futuree road would require more of their property. They want the store to go in, to fit the size of the property. Councilmen reminded the neighbors, "If we don't take the project we are economically stifled. We have looked at it very carefully and turned down numerous proposals." The Council felt like this is the only plan they can live with, will be beneficial to the city and not detrimental to the neigh bors." After contacting the Attorney General, the council informed the citizens the City has a legal right to sell city property. The Attorney General stated, "I don't know why you are holding a public meeting, its not required." It was also mentioned there is not a street in Lindon as wide as Main Street will be when it is completed even with the 10 feet taken away. Citizens asked for a drawing on how the traffic approached Main Street from the State Highway. A drawing depicted how the street would separate with an island between north and southbound traffic. Citizens were reminded the land is zoned commercial, and it will be a benefit to their property because of the commercial value. Storehouse Market chose the site after a marketing study. The mayor left the meeting briefly and returned stating there may be some delay in getting Storehouse Market. In economic developments everything has to be brought together and with fall approaching things may h ave changed. We've eone through public notices and meetings to come to this point, maybe its all changed. Getting people briefed takes a lot of time. He recommended to the council, w-e have brought the project to th is point, and addressed all concerns. We would like to have a beautiful nice office building all landscaped but we don't feel like we are making a mistake. We liavt considered every approach to the turn-off and think it will work. The council accepted the agreement with the conditions read. If the transaction is not signed within two weeks the ordinance will be nullified. Following the meeting some of the neighbors expressed appreciation ap-preciation to the council for individual in-dividual meetings and calling them. : in to hear their concerns. |
