Show Dane Iorg helps Royals win Dane Iorg of Pleasant Grove came on as a pinch hitter in the bottom of the ninth inning Saturday in the sixth game of the World Series and saved the game for the Kansas City Royals. Dane rapped out a good single with the bases loaded to send in the winning run as the Royals evened the series at three-all with the St. Louis Cardinals. Dane was not yet back in town at press time because of celebrations being staged in Kansas City following the Royals 11-0 blasting of the Cards Sunday night to win the World Series. Dane was one of the outstanding players as a designated hitter in the 1982 World Series when he was a member of the St. Louis Cardinals team which won the world championship. cham-pionship. Now he has played a key role, three years later, for another Missouri team, the Kansas City Royals, which has won the World Series. Designated hitters are only allowed every other year and this was the year they were not being used. Fortunately, Dane was able to serve his team in the role of pinch hitter where he came through magnificently. The residents of Pleasant Grove congratulate Dane for his excellent performance this year. |
