Show Citizen, Review, Press, Wed., June 20, 1984 - Page 14 .. mmmi Fire season closed statewide The statewide closed fire season ' has been declared by State Forester Ralph A. Miles and will run from June 1 through October 31. Miles said, "Utah's forests and public safety. The state forester, his deputies and county sheriffs may refuse, revoke, postpone or cancel permits when necessary in the interest of public safety. Burmng permits by contacting a disi K county fire ch ire,.; Division of statJ N i Forestry office, or W: watershed occupy a vital place in the state's economy. Because these lands are extremely vulnerable to damage by wildfire, and because the climatic and vegetative con-ditions of moderate fire severity are now approaching and will become progressively more severe, it is necessary to declare the closed fire season." Miles cautions people to De especially careful of fire from now until the end of October. "Because of this year's abundant growth of grasses that can become volatile when dry, precaution with fire is essential to protecting Utah's wildlands," Miles said. During the closed fire season, any person who sets a fire or causes a fire to be set in any inflammable material on any forest, brush, range, grass, grain stubble or hay land without first securing a written permit from the state forester or designated deputy, and complying fully with the terms and conditions prescribed by the permit, will have committed a misdemeanor. Persons causing such fires will be subject to prosecution. Burning permits will not be issued when the fireweather forecasters of the National Weather Service an-nounce a red-fla- g warning for any area of the state. Red-fla- g warnings are issued when extreme weather conditions are present that may cause open burning to be a threat to ni i inmiis rmillmoTci i I in i a i a i Li i u i u i u i i u , - ' I - S ! in n S 1 5 5 Mfo., &psCi; - S I t"WW- 5 5 PFIREWORKS COUPON7!
