Thurston of Pleasant Grove, a 1977 graduate of Box Elder High School, has been appointed director of marketing communications for the Micro Systems Division (MSD) of DHI Computing Service in Provo. WU Crandall, vice president MSD, said Thurston will supervise the writing and publication of educational materials for users of the IBM PC XT370 computers being marketed through MSD and also prepare materials for use in trade shows throughout the nation. Thurston, a son of Irvin J. and Beatrice Thurston, graduated from BYU in 1983 with a bachelor's degree in business management and has been working as a customer service representative for Financial Processing Systems, an affiliate of DHI Computing Service in Provo. A collector's item postmark commemorating ' the Olympic Torch can be received by sending a stamped envelop to pastmasters in cities where the torch is passing through on its way to the 1984 Summer Olympics. The special postmark is called the Olympic Torch Commemora-tive Cancellation, according to Salt Lake City Postmaster Howard L Buck, who also oversees all postal operations in Utah. Commemora-tive cancellations highlight important events and can become very valuable. The cancellation is free and pictures a torch bearer running toward a sunburst. You can get one by sending your stamped envelope or card to "Postmaster, Olympic Torch Cancellations" at the proper city and ZIP code. Orders must be received by the day the torch passes through the city. Besides Salt Lake City (ZIP code 84199) where the torch will arrive June 28, it has yet to pass through Boise 83708 (July 1); Seattle 98109 (July 6); Portland 97208 (July 8); Reno 89510 (July 13); Sacramento 95813 (July 15); Oakland 94615 (July 16); San Francisco 94188 (July 16); San Jose 95101 (July 17); San Diego 92199 (July 24); and Los Angeles 90052 (July 28).
