Show By marcella walker The new flags are flying on Main and Center Street and you ffed the excitement in the air as JjSnt down begins for the 1984 The first day of summer will see the local residents enjoying it to the fullest as tomorrow the first full day of activities begin. Today is the kickoff at 6 p.m. with the annual Children's Parade which begins at Nortons Store. Youngsters from tiny tots to free wheeling bicyclists will join the procession from Nortons parking lot east to 100 E., north to Center Street, west to Main Street and south back to Nortons. Children will receive a popsicle and a carnival ticket for participating par-ticipating in the parade. The Strawberry Days Association will also contribute five cents to the Primary Childrens Medical Center for each child who marches in the parade. The horsepulling contest will begin at 7:30 p.m. today in the rodeo arena. Twenty-five teams of draft horses will participate in this annual an-nual event which is fast becoming a favorite. Thursday morning the full day of activities begins at 9 a.m. with the mini-marathon road race which will begin at the Public Safety Building and finish at the Grove Ward after following a 6.2 mile circuit through the north end of Pleasant Grove. The popular parades are a highlight of the day. The morning parade will begin at 10 a.m. following a route from Center Street and Main Street to 300 S., east to 100 E., north on 100 E. to 200 S., east on 200 S. to Pleasant Grove High School. Floats, bands, clowns, marching units of all kinds and dignitaries will excite the spectators. spec-tators. In the evening, the parade will follow the same route only in reverse beginning at 6 o'clock. The Pioneer Museum and Cabin Tours and bake sale will begin at 11 a.m. at the Museum site on 100 E. near 100 S. In addition the flower show, art and craft show, and art exhibit will begin at 11 a.m. at the Recreation and Community Center complex at 35 E. 200 S. . The Recreation Dept. will sponsor a baby contest at 1 p.m. at the Library Park. It should be noted that these baby contests will not be the traditional beauty contest but will include planned baby races, ice cream eating contests, etc. The band preview will be held on Main Street immediately after the morning parade. The rodeo will begin at 8 p.m. at the Pleasant Grove Rodeo Grounds. This opening night performance will offer special family night rates with children age 12 and under being admitted free with a paying adult. The Recreation Dept. will offer campus games on Friday, June 22, from 10 a.m. til noon at the Library Park. This activity will include three legged races, egg toss, gun-nysack gun-nysack races, etc. The stock parade will begin at 6 p.m. on Main Street. Fine riding groups and powerful horses can be seen in this parade. A pie eating contest will also be held at 6 p.m. at the Library Park. The rodeo will again be seen at 8 p.m. at the rodeo grounds. Regular entrance rates will apply this evening. The final day of the three-day festivities will begin at 7 a.m. with the men's at the junior high school division Tennis Tournaments. The women's division will begin at 8 a.m. at the high school courts. The relay swim meet invitational will be held beginning at 8 a.m. at the Veterans Memorial pool. A horseshoe pitching tournament will be held at 9 a.m. in the Downtown City Park on the north side where the horseshoe pits are located. A sand sculpture contest will be held at 10 a.m. in the Downtown Park playground. The sand bag filling contest will be held at the Downtown Park at 1p.m. The final performance of the rodeo will be held at 8 p.m. at the rodeo grounds. All three days the City of Fun Carnival will be located at the Downtown Park. Strawberries and Cream will be served in the park each day and each evening at the stands in the rodeo grounds. The Strawberry Days Association under the leadership of Harold Jacklin, chairman, has planned events for the enjoyment of all ages. Plan to not miss a thing!
