Lindon Elementary will be holding an open house Friday, May 13, for Connie Tucker, who is retiring this year. The fifth graders had a field day this week to observe some birds in their natural habitat and the first grade classes will be taking a trip to the zoo on May 18. May 18 will also mark the date for the annual Dance Festival. The event is scheduled to be held at the outdoor amphitheater adjacent to the school that evening at 5 p.m., however, if the weather is bad, the festival will be postponed until Thursday evening, May 19. La Veil Edwards will be at Lindon School May 20 at 9 a.m. to kick off the annual Field Day events. The first event on the day's schedule is the The Talent Assembly is planned for May 24 at 1 p.m. and on May 26 the Awards Assembly will also be held at 1 p.m. At Aspen Elementary a Parent-Teache- r Talent Show is scheduled mmmmm:'. a mmmmm. for Friday, May 13. L to R, front, Chad Atkinson, David Beagley. P.G.H.S. students win in speech invitational Believe it or not there is a Debate program at Pleasant Grove High. And on April 30th some of the members competed at the Pleasant Grove Invitational Speech Meet. Students participated in three specialty areas: 1. Speaking on current event topics taken from a magazine. 2. Persuasive speeches on controversial topics. 3. Speaking on an assigned topic with only one minute preparation. The winners were: 1st place Varsity Division, John Ekins; 1st place Jr. Varsity tie, Bret Anderson, Jeff Hullinger, 2nd, David Beagley; and 3rd, Chad Atkinson. Congratulations Debate Team! Entries sought for state visual arts program The Utah Arts Council's Visual " Arts Program is seeking entries for its annual statewide visual arts competition and exhibition. Entry dates for this year's state show, "Utah '83," have been set for Friday and Saturday, June 3 and 4, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Salt Lake Art Center, 20 South West Temple. The exhibition will open the evening of June 17, with a reception for the public from 7 to 9 p.m. At that time cash and pur-chase awards will be presented. "Utah '83" is open to all artists residing in Utah. There is no entry fee for submitting works, although artists are limited to a total of two, none of which may be over two years old, or previously entered in an annual juried exhibition spon-sored by the council. Original works only in all visual arts media are acceptable, including crafts, graphics, installations, mixed media, painting, performance art, photography, sculpture and watercolor. Works will be accepted on June 3 and 4 at the loading dock on the south side of the Salt Lake Art Center. "Utah '83" will be on display at the Salt Lake Art Center through September.
