Show Sewer District seeks site for sludge The Snyderville Basin Sewage Improvement District Dis-trict has requested that the Summit County Commission grant a permit for it to dump sludge at the Henefer dump. United Park City Mines has given notice to the district that it will no longer be able to dump sludge at the Park City landfill. According to the sewer district's manager, Ed Davis, sludge has been dumped in a liquid state for the last two and a half years at the landfill. Davis said that until the district acquires the facilities to dehydrate the sludge it needs a place to dump it. Because of the large volumes of the liquid, sludge disposal becomes a problem, Davis said. A belt press could reduce the sludge to 80 percent water from the present 98 percent. At that point, he said, the sludge could be handled in a dump truck instead of a tanker and be deposited at the landfill in Park City. Dumping sludge in Hene fer is an "interim solution" until new machinery is installed. It will cost approximately approx-imately $75,000 and might not be installed for four months. In June of last year, the Summit County Planning Commission banned the dumping of sludge on private property north of 1-80. |
